More in Memory of Mr. P. R. Narvekar
From the IMF
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of the Fund’s former Deputy Managing Director, Prabhakar R. Narvekar, on Thursday, November 21, 2019.
Mr. Narvekar, an Indian National, had a very long and distinguished career at the Fund that spanned four decades starting from 1953 through 1997. He began his career as a Research Assistant in 1953 and rose to Director of APD from 1986-1991, Special Advisor to the Managing Director from 1991 to 1994, and as Deputy Managing Director from 1994 until his retirement in 1997. At the height of the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, Mr. Narvekar simultaneously served as Special Advisor to the Managing Director as well as to the President of Indonesia.
Mr. Narvekar (“PR” as he was known), was a highly respected leader and colleague who will be remembered for his keen intellect and wise counsel on a wide range of topics and, more importantly for his kindness, warmth, humility, and supportive and nurturing personality and demeanor.
On behalf of the Fund, I would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, especially his children Nirmal and Medha, and to his friends and colleagues.
More details on memorial service will be communicated via HR Web in the coming days as they become available.
